Brad Pitt was cleared of child abuse allegations, so you can rest easy about that at least

Following a weeks-long investigation by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), Brad Pitt has been cleared of child abuse allegations. That’s good news for the actor (and everyone involved), who’s fighting for joint custody following his divorce with Angelina Jolie. Jolie filed for divorce after an alleged “altercation” between Pitt and their 15-year-old son, Maddox, on the family’s private plane. Jolie said she was filing for divorce for the “health of her family,” and there have been anonymous reports and sources saying Pitt and Maddox fight often. But DCFS says he hasn’t done anything wrong.

In the meantime, Jolie and Pitt are still abiding by their temporary custody agreement, in which Jolie has sole custody and Pitt can see the children for “therapeutic visits.” There aren’t many details about what that actually means, but up until now, Pitt has only seen his six children in the presence of a family therapist. Maddox initially refused to see him at all, though they have since had an appointment with a therapist together.

A rep for Jolie said in a statement, “Angelina said from the beginning that she felt she had to take action for the health of the family and is relieved that after their 8-week involvement, the DCFS is now satisfied the safeguards are put in place that will allow the children to heal.”

Back in October, Jolie sat with the FBI for four hours to talk about the alleged incident on the plane and Pitt’s relationships with his kids. Pitt was fully cooperating, which might have worked in his favor. At the time, a source told Us Weekly, “Neither side wants this to go to court because everything the FBI and DCFS investigated will potentially be made available to the public, which would be bad for the entire family.”

Uh, I have to admit that if they had gone to court, I would be the first one to try to find out what the hell happened. It’s odd that the altercation led to a four-hour interview and weeks-long investigation by DCFS… like, what the hell was going on, guys? I know, I know, it’s none of our business but sometimes it helps to know that celeb lives are just as freaking out of control and emotionally traumatizing as everyone else’s.

It sounds like Pitt is just a boozer and screamer from the conclusion of the DCFS investigation — which is still terrible. Hopefully this mess was a good wake up call and the whole family comes out OK.
