The new ‘Wonder Woman’ trailer is here so let’s watch Diana Prince save the world

The summer blockbuster season is never complete without a good superhero movie, and the new Wonder Woman trailer will have you marking the days until the film’s release in June. Diana Prince, played by Fast and the Furious actress Gal Gadot, is fighting the “war to end all wars” in the upcoming Warner Brothers film. The movie also stars Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen, just in case you were worried about how hardcore the characters are going to be. The film takes place during World War I, with Prince helping Steve Trevor (played by Chris Pine) save the world from all evil. Because that’s what superheroes do.

“I used to want to save the world,” Prince says in the narration of the teaser. “This beautiful place. But the closer you get, the more you see the great darkness within. I learned this the hard way, a long, long time ago.”

What ensues is basically Prince getting shot at about 10,000 different ways and being played off as Trevor’s “secretary” in their quest to save the world. Whatever works. Gadot is psyched to take on the iconic role. This summer she told Entertainment Weekly, “I feel that I’ve got the opportunity to set a great role model for girls to look up to a strong, active, compassionate, loving, positive woman and I think it’s so important.”

The film is centered around her drive to take on “evil” just because she wants to, not because some dude told her to. Actually, the new Wonder Woman series writer Greg Rucka says the character is most definitely queer (she’s an Amazon, after all). Rucka said Themyscira, the island Prince comes from, is a paradise full of crazy strong female warriors, so being a lesbian isn’t even a thing.

He told Comicosity this summer, “It’s supposed to be paradise. You’re supposed to be able to live happily. You’re supposed to be able — in a context where one can live happily, and part of what an individual needs for that happiness is to have a partner — to have a fulfilling, romantic and sexual relationship. And the only options are women.” NBD.

Gadot told Glamour she likes that there’s no love story at the center of Prince’s quest and that it’s all about being strong AF. Gadot said she’s also changed how she thinks about her body since filming the movie. During filming, she said, “Since I’ve started, I’ve gained about 17 pounds, and it’s all muscle. I feel so much better now.” Gadot added, “When you feel strong, it changes everything — your posture, the way you walk.”

The trailer for the new Wonder Woman movie is most definitely cool. Let the countdown till summer movies begin.
