Apple finally gives us the facepalm emoji we’ve wanted for fucking years

If you’re sick and tired of writing “ugh” (or whatever you do when you need to denote something stupid via text), your life is about to get a lot better. Apple will finally release a facepalm emoji so you can fully punch up every comment with the animated person it deserves. I, for one, am the queen of messing up big time and am always trying to communicate to friends and family that I crossed a line in some aspect of my life. I’m basically Larry David, but cuter and with more self awareness. All this is to say: I need the facepalm. With the most recent iOS update, there are GIFs that can convey the feeling, but it’s different. A GIF is a little too over the top sometimes, while a facepalm emoji is simple and straight to the point.

Along with 72 other emoji included in the iOS 10.2 update, it’s unclear when the facepalm emoji will grace our keyboards, but it should be pretty soon. Another highlight of the new additions is a shrug emoji (also necessary for jerks like me). Now, when a friend inevitably texts me, “Are you still coming?,” instead of trying to explain how I was coming, but then it started to rain, and I’m waiting to see if it keeps raining or not before trying to put on eyeliner and meeting her for a beer, I can just use a shrug emoji. So much valuable time will be saved.

In addition to the facepalm and non-committal shrug emoji, there’s also a fox face, a pregnant woman, someone doing a cartwheel (yesssss, I cannot wait to use that one), a shopping cart, a man dancing, a call-me hand (what a time to be alive), and a raised fist (so you can actually threaten to punch someone in the face and leave those other fists for fist bumps, what they were supposed to be used for in the first place). There’s even a scotch glass (served neat), so you can tell your friends what to order you while you make your way to the bar — if you’re still invited after that initial shrug, of course.

Unicode announced the new and improved emoji back in June, but it was just confirmed Tuesday that they would be included in a new update that’s supposed to be here by the end of the month. I’m ready — so, so ready.
