Even accused sexual harasser Roger Ailes is done with Trump’s shit

Amidst handfuls of sexual harassment and abuse accusations, former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes resigned from his post in July, only to accept a gig advising none other than self-avowed pussy grabber and Republican nominee Donald Trump. Ailes reportedly took on the daunting task of prepping Trump for the presidential debates against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, and as Trump’s debate performances indicate, things did not go too well in prep. And now, get this: Ailes and Trump aren’t even speaking anymore.

Between sexual abuse scandals and spreading stereotypical right-wing bullshit, you’d think the two had enough in common to cement an everlasting friendship, but as it turns out, one fundamental difference was enough to blast that friendship to smithereens. That difference reportedly existed in their work ethic.

New York magazine’s Gabriel Sherman reports: “Ailes’s camp said Ailes learned that Trump couldn’t focus—surprise, surprise—and that advising him was a waste of time. These debate prep sessions weren’t going anywhere.”

So, that’s one thing we’re willing to trust Ailes on: that Trump’s work ethic and attention span are probably absolute shit. All filthy, degrading language and policy ideas aside, even if Trump were a progressive icon, I wouldn’t want someone with the attention span of a 7 year old governing our nation.

The Trump camp offers a slightly different version of events. Vanity Fair contributing editor Sarah Ellison reports that “even for the second debate, Ailes kept going off on tangents and talking about his war stories while he was supposed to be prepping Trump.” He sounds a lot like that one relative at every family gathering who just won’t shut up about the good ol’ days, and yet you’d think that for all the subtly bigoted nostalgia of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign Trump would embrace this.

Then, of course, given the timing of their alleged breakup, it’s entirely possible Ailes is (ironically) choosing to disassociate himself from a man mired in sexual assault allegations, who literally boasted about his ability as a wealthy male to “do anything” to women, including grabbing “them by the pussy,” with or without permission. You don’t have to be a genius to see how being associated with Trump, who’s being widely accused of sexual harassment, abuse, and exploitation of women, could make you look even worse.

Ailes continues to deny allegations against him, which first emerged when former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson accused him of harassing her and more female Fox employees, allegedly including Megyn Kelly, came forward with similar testimonies.
