This is not a drill: You can get free Luke’s Diner coffee across the country

Nothing will make you feel more basic than getting mildly excited that on Wednesday, you can pretend you live in Stars Hollow and go grab free coffee at Luke’s Diner pop ups all across the country. Yes, really. In an effort to promote the new Gilmore Girls reboot, Netflix is transforming cafes all across the country into exact replicas of the diner from the show, basically serving up an excuse to Instagram the shit out of yourself pretending to be Lorelai and Rory and help the streaming network market the show. So, you’re basically doing their marketing for them, but if there’s free coffee involved, why the hell not? Don’t pretend you’re above that.

They are going all in. Over 200 cafes across the country will transform into Luke’s for one day only on Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 7 a.m. to noon. Every cafe will have “all the Luke’s Diner essentials,” according to Netflix, including the first 250 cups of coffee, which Netflix will provide for free (so if you get there late, you gotta buy your own cup).

You can check out the full list of the pop up locations to see where you can get in on the cheesy fun and score a free cup of joe.

What’s sort of cool about this promo is that it’s not snobby about locations — usually all the cool entertainment stuff either happens in New York City or Los Angeles or some other big city, but there are at least two cafes per state that will participate in the event, so if you are really hardcore about Gilmore Girls and live in say, Idaho, you can still get it on.

Netflix is promising that there will be Luke’s swag (like shirts and aprons) in every pop up cafe, which is cute, but it would be a whole lot better if dreamy, flannel-clad Lukes were actually there to shoot the shit with you and serve you breakfast. Alas, you’ll have to content yourself with replica diner tables.

The Netflix reboot, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, premieres Nov. 25. It’s just four episodes — one for each season — and takes place in the present day. Most of the original cast is coming back, too, including Rory’s past love interests, so there might be some closure in that department. But first: coffee.
