Hillary Clinton’s quote about stamina really put the dude obsessed with staying power in his place
In August, Donald Trump made clear that he doesn’t think Hillary Clinton has what it takes to be president, specifically noting that Trump believes Clinton “lacks the mental and physical stamina to take on ISIS, and all the many adversaries we face.” He continued pushing this language when Clinton got sick, encouraging the American public to view her as weak and incapable of being president. The comment was brought up again during the first presidential debate, as Trump was asked to expand upon the comment that she lacks both “stamina” and a presidential “look,” but Hillary Clinton’s quote about stamina immediately put Trump in his place.
Trump said he’s definitely called out her stamina, repeating again that “she doesn’t have the look, she doesn’t have the stamina” for what’s required of the president of the U.S., which he described as “tremendous.” He continued to list the different negotiations that the president has to handle, saying he doesn’t believe she’d be capable of handling the task. Clinton responded by pointing out that she’s been to over a hundred countries as the secretary of state, something he’s clearly never done.
Too, Clinton argued that there is a gendered aspect to Trump saying she doesn’t have the energy it takes, or the right look required, to be president. “He tried to change from looks to stamina,” she fired back, “but this is a man who has called women pigs, slobs and dogs.”
She brought up Trump’s misogyny regularly throughout the debate, to which he responded that her attack ads are much meaner than his, so he must have more respect for her than she does for him, despite her supposed frailty.
