Ariana Grande really, really doesn’t want to talk about her relationship with Mac Miller
The level of privacy desired in a romantic relationship naturally varies depending on who you are, but when you’re a pop star in the spotlight, demanding any level of privacy will easily be painted as hostility. Such is the case when Ariana Grande snapped at Ryan Seacrest when he questioned Grande’s rumored relationship with Mac Miller. The slight altercation occurred Wednesday during a radio interview with Seacrest, when he addressed an Instagram photo the Dangerous Woman singer posted of Miller hugging her on the ground.
In Seacrest’s defense, the photo is captioned “baabyyy,” and Instagram photos with potential romantic partners are fair game even for the non-celebrity. However, Grande obviously didn’t want to talk about it, and that’s her right as a human being desiring privacy.
When Seacrest first playfully asked her if her Instagram photo confirmed the status of her relationship with Miller, Grande snapped, “Oh, is that what I did? Is that what Instagram means to you now? All right world, let’s go. What was that segue?”
After Seacrest answered with a shrug, positing that she shouldn’t post public pictures if she minds being asked about them, she fully revealed her feelings on his question. “If I post something, then that’s what I’m willing to share at the moment,” she said. “That doesn’t mean that you, Ryan Seacrest, with millions of listeners, are entitled to more information.”
Her defensiveness came off as equal parts blushing schoolgirl defending herself against accusations of a crush and understandably exasperated celebrity hoping for a slice of privacy. As she said, posting a photo on Instagram is a different action than deciding to divulge the details of your relationship.
Avoiding addressing the rumors of her relationship with Miller will only prove increasingly difficult for Grande, as her run-in with Seacrest was only one of two interviews that touched on the coupling this week. During Grande’s interview on The Ellen Show on Wednesday, she was also questioned about her relationship with Miller; however in this instance, Ellen fully broke the ice and intuited the two were a couple. Blushing and taken off guard, Grande responded by saying, “I don’t know, man. This is so crazy. I wasn’t prepared for this.”
This really might just be an issue of Grande feeling sensitive about the public christening of her brand new relationship. After all, love is fragile and can crack apart even faster under the hot pressure of the public eye.
