Will Daenerys battle Euron Greyjoy in ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7?

Now that the new season of Game of Thrones has started filming, Season 7 *Rumor Time* is officially here. And what better way to kick off Rumor Time than with a potential battle between Daenerys and Euron Greyjoy? Game of Thrones fansite Watchers on the Wall reported a Greyjoy sighting that could yield big drama for the show’s upcoming season: Alfie Allen (Theon), Gemma Whelan (Yara), and Pilou Asbæk (Euron) were spotted in Belfast, along with Indira Varma (Ellaria Sand) and Lena Headey (Cersei).

Where does Daenerys come in? Remember that near the end of Season 6, Yara and Theon booked it the hell out of Pyke once Euron became ruler of the islands. Yara offered Dany 100 ships from House Greyjoy’s fleet to help her retake the Iron Throne, in a boss lady team-up that may have been more than just politics. Fans detected sparks flying between Yara, who we know is into women, and Dany, who is dudes-only in the show but has a sexual encounter with her handmaiden in the books. Emilia Clarke has said she’d be up for a Dany/Yara romance, so we’ll see where their relationship goes. Before Dany actually gets any ships, however, she and the Greyjoys will have to get rid of Euron and put Yara back on the Salt Throne of Pyke where she belongs.

Meanwhile, Headey’s presence in Belfast suggests Euron and Cersei might be joining forces against Dany and the Greyjoys. Now that Cersei has murdered her way to becoming Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, she’ll no doubt do anything she possibly can to hold on to the crown. But with Dany and Yara bearing down on Westeros, she’s going to need allies with serious sea power — like Euron, who will have 1,000 ships at his disposal (at least for the moment) once the Iron Islanders are done building them.

There’s no detailed speculation yet about why Ellaria Sand is hanging out in Belfast, but her presence might hint at Dorne getting even further into the mix. She’s already declared war on the Lannisters, thrown in with the pro-Targaryen Varys and the Tyrells, and supplied ships for Dany’s armada. What she’ll do when Tyrion finds out about Myrcella remains to be seen, but that should be a pretty tense one-on-one.

Right now all of this is speculation, of course. However, we’ve got to do something to tide ourselves over until Season 7 hits our TV screens and we can get our Game of Thrones fix again.
