Listen to Lady Gaga’s new single “Perfect Illusion” to start your weekend right

Fans everywhere can now pump a new TGIF jam, because Lady Gaga dropped her new single “Perfect Illusion” early Friday morning as a perfect weekend kickoff. The new pop jam was produced by Gaga in collaboration with Mark Ronson (perhaps best known for his work on “Uptown Funk”), along with Kevin Flynn of Tame Impala and Bloodpop.

For patient lovers of Gaga, the song serves as a beacon of hope amidst a dry spell of Gaga tunes since the release of her 2013 album Artpop. The vibe of “Perfect Illusion” marries some of her signature pop vocals with the obvious psychedelic-pop influence of Flynn’s production skills. It’s a song that will definitely get stuck in your head, not because of overt catchiness, but because it’s pleasant enough on the ears that you’ll let it spin on repeat.

In an interview with BBC News, Gaga revealed she wrote “Perfect Illusion” on a typewriter and that the lyrics to the song, as well as the creative process of utilizing the typewriter, was intended as a commentary on our relationship with social media. She said:

“How do we navigate through social media? How do we look through these images that we know are filtered and altered, and decipher what is reality and what is a perfect illusion?”

In true privileged fashion, you can contemplate Gaga’s thoughts on social media while simultaneously updating your Facebook about her new single.
