When is the iPhone 7 coming out? Here’s everything you need to know

On Wednesday, Apple held its annual fall event during which the tech giant reveals new products, updates, and company initiatives to the public patiently awaiting any news about the Next Best Gadget they have to have. This year, there’s only one thing on everyone’s mind — the iPhone 7. Apple announced when the iPhone 7 will come out in an accidental tweet as the event was happening, and it looks like you only have to wait until Sept. 16 to get your hands on the sleek new phone.

After introducing himself with a “Carpool Karaoke” video with James Corden, CEO Tim Cook boasted about the new records Apple set in the past year in app sales, introduced Mario Kart to the app store, and talked up Apple Music. But let’s be real: no one really cares about anything besides the new iPhone.

Rumors about the phone started months ago, but nothing’s really for sure until Cook himself confirms it (though Apple accidentally tweeted some of the details before they were actually announced on stage). What’s always a given is that the newest iPhone will be bigger and thinner and have more advanced security than every previous iteration. So, we know it’s going to be objectively better than the iPhone 6, but what exactly will the iPhone 7 entail?

Here’s everything you need to know about the new phone.

Water Resistant

The iPhone will be water resistant, which means you no longer have to agonize over accidentally dropping it in a pool, lake, ocean, or toilet (look, we’ve all done it).

No Headphone Jack

Unlike every other phone, the 7 won’t have a headphone jack at all. To listen to music, people will have to either use Bluetooth headphones or Lightning-based headphones plugged into the phone’s charger port.

Stereo Speakers

The iPhone 7 will have a second speaker, acting as a stereo speaker. Can you say dance party?

iOS 10

Apple’s biggest iOS release to date will allow you to simply lift your iPhone to wake it up and book a car ride by voice.

Two Cameras With Zoom

The iPhone 7 Plus will boast two 12 megapixel cameras to allow a zoom feature built into the phone camera. The smartphone is getting closer and closer to essentially being a DSLR camera. It will also have a new photo option called “portrait” that allows you to capture the depth of field, with a clear foreground and blurry background.

More Storage Space

Upping the amount of available space on each phone, the 7 will be available in 32GB, 128GB, and a whopping 256GB.

The Cost

The phone will start at $649 and can be pre-ordered beginning Sept. 9.
