Bill Nye Returns To TV With Netflix Talk Show ‘Bill Nye Saves The World’
Everyone’s favorite science guy is returning to TV next year, as Bill Nye is creating a talk show for Netflix. Bill Nye Saves the World is the most accurate title the streaming company could have possibly come up with, and adults nostalgic for their childhood are definitely down for this. The only drawback is that the world has to wait until spring 2017 for The Science Guy’s brilliance to be imparted on our tiny little brains again.
In a Wednesday press release about the new show, Netflix said, “Each episode will tackle a topic from a scientific point of view, dispelling myths, and refuting anti-scientific claims that may be espoused by politicians, religious leaders or titans of industry.” I definitely foresee lots of climate change episodes bashing those still in denial in a factual, yet fun way only Nye could pull off.
Since it will be a talk show, Nye will interview guests, as well as continue conducting experiments and demonstrations to make us all a fraction smarter. Nye is pretty charismatic on his own, but the show will also have standup comedian and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon writer Mike Drucker as head comedy writer to help boost the scientific jokes.
“Since the start of the Science Guy show, I’ve been on a mission to change the world by getting people everywhere excited about the fundamental ideas in science,” Nye said in the Netflix press release. “Today, I’m excited to be working with Netflix on a new show, where we’ll discuss the complex scientific issues facing us today, with episodes on vaccinations, genetically modified foods and climate change. With the right science and good writing, we’ll do our best to enlighten and entertain our audience. And, perhaps we’ll change the world a little.”
Since his ’90s hit show Bill Nye the Science Guy, the famed scientist has competed in Dancing with the Stars and written multiple books as The Science Guy. His latest book, Unstoppable: Harnessing Science to Change the World, embodies his entire philosophy — the possibilities of our world our limitless — which will surely be a theme in his new show as well.
The truly great thing about Nye coming to Netflix is that we’ll all be able to binge-watch 10 hours of TV without moving, but feel productive nonetheless because we were learning. That’s really the most anyone can hope to accomplish on the weekend, and Nye will be helping us become the best versions of ourselves.
