French Schools Are Starting To Use 3D Clitoris Models To Teach Kids About Sex

The French just do things so much better all the time. Along with wearing sunglasses indoors and staying thin by eating bread, now the French are using a 3D clitoris in sex ed classes. If the French were making steamy amor before, things are going to be even more awesome.

There are a lot of reasons this is a good thing, and not just because too many men don’t even know the clitoris exists, let alone how it works — educating both genders on the female anatomy empowers women to accept and love their bodies. It teaches men that women’s bodies are complex and interesting, and not just objects to use for themselves.

In fact, the creator of the model, French scientist Odile Fillod (who made it in collaboration with Fab Lab), wanted to show people that men and women are not that different. Fillod told The Guardian, “It’s also vital to know that the equivalent of a penis in a woman is not a vagina, it’s her clitoris.” He said, “Women get erections when they’re excited, only you can’t see them because most of the clitoris is internal. I wanted to show that men and women are not fundamentally different.” It’s amazing what a little education can do.

Men don’t seem to have any shame about their genitals (in fact, it’s usually quite the opposite), but many women do. There are still women and men in America who don’t know it’s OK and normal if they can’t get off via penetration. That just makes me so sad.

Fillod said, “It’s important that women have a mental image of what is actually happening in their body when they’re stimulated.” He added, “In understanding the key role of the clitoris, a woman can stop feeling shame, or [that she’s] abnormal if penile-vaginal intercourse doesn’t do the trick for her — given the anatomical data, that is the case for most women.” Preach, my man.

Talking frankly about bodies and genitals is so important — I mean, it’s science. Too often people wrap sexual ed up and feel prudish or embarrassed about it. Which always strikes me as funny, since sex is the best. Getting all squirmy while talking about it is counterproductive.

There definitely won’t be a clitoris model in American schools anytime soon for just that reason. Heck, some schools (in states with the highest STI and pregnancy rates) preach that abstinence is the only way to deal with sexual desire. If they also taught women how to masturbate with a clit model, I could maybe even get behind that.

The French just do life better sometimes, and this is proof.
