Oh, Now Melania Trump Has “Always Liked” Michelle Obama, Whose Husband The Trump Campaign Constantly Attacks

And on the third day of the Republican National Convention, a Trump employee finally admitted that Melania Trump’s RNC speech was plagiarized by mistake. Meredith McIver released a statement Wednesday morning saying she takes the blame for the passages in the speech that resembled Michelle Obama’s 2008 Democratic Convention speech about her husband, the Democratic presidential nominee at the time. What’s more strange than McIver suddenly taking responsibility, though, is the fact that she mentioned Obama is someone Trump as “always liked.”

McIver’s statement said about Trump, “A person she has always liked is Michelle Obama. Over the phone, she read me some passages from Mrs. Obama’s speech as examples. I wrote them down and later included some of the phrasing in the draft that ultimately became the final speech.” She added, “I did not check Mrs. Obama’s speeches. This was my mistake, and I feel terrible for the chaos I have caused Melania and the Trumps, as well as to Mrs. Obama. No harm was meant.”

She also said she tried to resign from the campaign on Tuesday, but Donald Trump wouldn’t allow it. Her statement claims, “Mr. Trump told me that people make innocent mistakes and that we learn and grow from these experiences.”

It’s pretty damn hysterical that McIver claimed Melania likes the first lady, since Melania’s husband is running a campaign where he attacks President Obama all the time. Sure, it was Michelle who inspired Melania and not Barack, but they stand for the same things — most of which contradict what the Trumps claim to stand for. Oh, to be a fly on Melania’s and Donald’s wall while they talk about his rhetoric on the campaign trail.

So, Melania and her husband aren’t the same page. That’s just a little political twist of fate. What’s really terrible is that after the news broke that Melania’s speech might have been plagiarized, Trump campaign employees, including his campaign manager, Paul Manafort, and Trump’s own children were all over the news claiming the speech hadn’t been copied at all. They spent the entire fucking day swearing up and down that Melania’s sentiments were all her own and that expressing certain ideas about her husband’s values that matched Michelle’s was just a coincidence. So they are all just fucking liars, but we pretty much already knew that.

Because, OK, fine: don’t fire the writer, mistakes happen, and all of that. But it shows that the Trump campaign is disorganized and refuses to ever admit wrongdoing. If they had come out as soon as McIver went to Donald about the passages she failed to double check (which is just sloppy work), and said, “Yup, it happened,” and did a collective face palm on all the cable news channels, that would show that they had some values. That being humble and honest and transparent is something they can handle, just in case they get into the White House. But that’s not what happened.

To make matters even worse, no one knows who Meredith McIver is. On Twitter, many journalists are searching for contact info or even pictures of her, all coming up blank. Given Trump’s proclivity for taking on aliases to do his dirty work, like when he gave an interview to People magazine and allegedly pretended to be another person on his publicity team, it’s entirely possible she’s not real. She’s listed as the candidate’s ghostwriter on some of his books, so let’s just hope she’s really really real. When it comes to The Donald, anything is possible.

It’s a debacle. Of course the campaign wants to stop talking about it, but the media and voters have a right to ask what the fuck was going on yesterday and what was going on when Donald hired someone incompetent enough to write a speech that was pulled from another convention — a speech made by someone the candidate probably has some nasty, misogynist and racist words for (just guessing here).
