Calvin Harris Wrote A Breakup Song About Taylor Swift, Beating Her At Her Own Game
The Taylor Swift-Calvin Harris breakup cycle has now come full circle. It looks like Harris has written a breakup song about Swift and supposedly all about cheating hearts. He has beaten Swift at her own game, since she is known for her cycle of dating men, falling in love, and then writing songs about them. It’s so very gossipy and silly, but I can’t help but be semi-obsessed with Harris’ initiative. Just because, well, I think he’s super cute and did feel a little bad for him when the rumors of Swift and her new beau Tom Hiddleston started to circulate the internet like a second after their breakup.
And it’s not just rumors — it’s hand holding, beach smooching, Roman holidays, meet the parents type stuff. No one, not even famous people or Swift’s exes, should have to look at that after a breakup. Even if it’s NBD and you’re better off (Harris, you are so much better off, for what it’s worth), it’s just shitty.
Writing a breakup song about her new romance is totally cheesy and petty (because of course he knew it would blow up since anything concerning Swift makes headlines, even if it’s just that she brushed her teeth), but I have to hand it him — this was a bold move.
The new song, titled Olé and performed by sung by John Newman, should be released on Friday. According to TMZ, there are lyrics like, “I see online that you begun to be a good girl and take trips with your boyfriend. Being attentive, continue to pretend.” But TMZ also swears that a lyric like, “Low key you won’t tell none of your friends about me,” is a “big coincidence,” since Hiddleston played Loki in Thor.
Listen: I’m all about a little gossip and a breakup song from Harris, but it took me about five minutes to put “low key” and “Loki” together… and just no, that is not a big coincidence. I think he just means “low key,” but I am not a TMZ source, so what the hell do I know.
And there’s more! TMZ’s super secret anonymous sources close to Swift who know all of the things about her life and thoughts say there is no way Harris’ new tune is about Hiddleston because he was working on it way before the Met Ball, which is when Hiddleston and Swift were spotted dancing together and Harris was no where to be seen.
Harris seems, by all accounts and based on his motivational Snapchat speeches, a pretty chill dude. So if he throws a little shade in his new song, so be it. Or, if the hype is just a nice way to market a new single and get some new fans why the hell not? Something good has to come out of dating Swift and constantly being hounded by paparazzi.
