You Need To Watch This ‘American Horror Story’ And ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Mashup Immediately
This video brings together three of my favorite things: RuPaul’s Drag Race, American Horror Story, and parody. The American Horror Story-RuPaul’s Drag Race mashup is the best thing on the internet right now if you happen to be a fan of either of these shows, but especially if you are a super fan of both. The timing of “American Horror Story: Drag Race” couldn’t be better, with the new season of Drag Race All Stars premiering Thursday, Aug. 25 on Logo. I’m honestly ready for summer to be over and for Fall TV programing to begin. I’m not much of a “beach bum,” just your standard “bum” who likes staying in and binge-watching television with her cat.
PLUS, it was just announced yesterday that season 6 of American Horror Story will return to FX Wednesday, Sept. 14. No word on what this season’s theme will be yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s “election year,” because that’s what everything seems to be these days. And let’s face it, this election thus far has been nothing short of terrifying.
Sure, I didn’t want the “Freak Show” season of AHS because of my deep, very real fear of clowns, but otherwise I’m a loyal fan. Specifically, “Coven” gave me life.
Lee Dawson, the creator of the video, perfectly replicates the style of the theme and overall vibe of American Horror Story in this parody. As any fan knows, every season features the same theme song, although the images in the opening montage are unique to every season.
For reference, here’s a montage of all of the themes from every season of AHS. WARNING: they are legit scary. Watch with caution.
Everybody OK? I had to turn another light on to get through it.
I mean, “American Horror Story: Drag Race” is just a perfect parody, which is hard to do. It’s utterly hilarious because there is some truth in it. This room is a very scary place for RuPaul competitors, so this video really heightens and exaggerates that. Heightening and exaggerating happen to be two vital components of drag. Well, of good drag.
Here we have the very beginning of the video:
Simultaneously spooky and hilarious. And that’s without music.
Check out the whole thing. It’s definitely worth it.
I’m so excited for both shows to return to my weekly “Ru-tine” (you see what I did there?). I’m not one to pick favorites, but I’ll make an exception with All Stars.
I’m calling it now, Alaska for the win.
