Kanye West Went On ‘Ellen’ And Was Surprisingly Earnest (Even If Still Very, Very Kanye)

If my Nana didn’t really know who Kanye was or what he was about, she certainly does now. Kanye West appeared on Ellen yesterday and brought his rantings to the daytime television audience. In the short time that he was seated in Ellen’s chair, he managed to cover a lot of ground. No, he’s not sorry for his tweets. Yes, he does genuinely think he can help the human race. We already knew that, but those that that are home watching talk shows at 3 p.m. on a weekday may not have been aware. Now they are!

Oh and he also technically asked Mark Zuckerberg for money while on the show. He proposed a simple formula.

“I feel that if I had more resources, I could help more people. I have ideas that can make the human race existence within our 100 years better. Period. Fuck the paparazzi. Whatever perception you have of me, starting with the truth. Starting with what everyone’s thinking. Start there. Put some dope shit with it.”

As a good comedian and talk show host, Ellen then asks him to elaborate on what exactly he means by “dope shit.”  True to Kanye fashion, he doesn’t directly answer her, but instead goes on a passionate tangent about his purpose and struggle as an artist. Many people roll their eyes at Kanye’s delivery when it comes to his lengthy speeches, but they do come from a true, earnest place, I think. He’s not wrong.

I actually applaud Kanye for getting real during a 3 p.m. time plot. Most celebs would plug their book or their tour, but Kanye will use any and every platform to get his message out there. Instead of plugging his clothing line in a shameless way, he gives us the inspiration for his project.

“When I make clothes it’s funny because I’m sitting there with Obama and Leo’s talking about the environment and I’m talking about clothes, and everyone looks at me like, that’s not an important issue or something. But I remember going to school in fifth grade and wanting to have a cool outfit. I called the head of Payless. I’m like, I want to work with you. I want to take all this information from sitting at all these fashion shows… I want to take away bullying. “

Say what you want about Kanye, but this is an earnestly positively outlook and goal.

Sure, Kayne gets serious while on the show, but there is also a lot of very funny moments where he doesn’t take himself so seriously during the segment “5 Second Rule.”

The best part? It’s when  Ellen shows her age and reminds us all to download Kanye’s new “CD.” Ah, Ellen. Not as hip as you think, despite her adorable dancing.
