Wait, What? Kate Hudson Singing “Nothing Compares 2 U” At Karaoke Is Actually So, So Good

Here’s what I’ve learned today: Everyone in the world knew that Kate Hudson is a really good singer except for me. I did not know this. In fact, when I saw “Kate Hudson singing “Nothing Compares 2 U”“, I was locked and loaded to aggressively hate it, and maybe even indignantly tweet about it if I could think of something clever and quippy enough to say. But holy shit, excuse me all the way, because it turns out that Kate Hudson is good at something other than having abs and lending her face to a scammy athletic wear company. She can sing very well! And her bob game is very strong! And she’s doing it for charity! For her mother Goldie Hawn’s charity, in fact, which fills me with the beautiful dream of a drunk Goldie teetering somewhere out there in the audience. In other words, I can’t find a single thing to shade here. It’s the first time Kate Hudson has ever inhabited a shade-free zone in my life. This feels weird.

So yeah, here’s Penny Lane somehow managing to not totally desecrate Prince’s still-fresh burial plot with her cover of the Prince a la Sinead O’Connor classic, “Nothing Compares 2 U.”

Right?! Go on, girl.

The cause for which this moment of shockingly inoffensive music happened: The Hawn Foundation’s annual Love In For Kids, which is so totally what Goldie Hawn would name a charity event, god bless her.

Having gone down this “Kate Hudson doesn’t suck a singing” rabbit hole (I lean into any opportunities to learn, guys), I’ve discovered that the rest of you probably already know this since Hudson was on Glee and I’m the only person in America who doesn’t watch this.

Fine. I’m the last person to this party.
