Jennifer Hudson And The Color Purple Cast’s Tribute To Prince Will Give You Major Chills

Waking up this morning was tough because a couple seconds after hitting the snooze button on my alarm and rubbing the sleep from my eyes, I remembered: Prince is dead. This fact was made a tiny bit easier by enjoying the outpouring of amazing tributes to the Purple One, starting with Jennifer Hudson’s Prince tribute at the end of last night’s performance of The Color Purple on Broadway. JHud absolutely destroyed the aching passion of “Purple Rain,” supported by the rest of the cast and the audience, who sang along with her. You WILL get chills.

Also paying tribute on Broadway was Lin-Manuel Miranda and the rest of the Hamilton crew, who capped off another sold out performance by throwing a mini dance party to Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” as they took their curtain call:

First Avenue nightclub hosted an all-night dance party that was open to the public, one of many across the nation:

And those are just a few of what I expect will be many more tributes to the man who rock critic Robert Christgau once said should have made “Mick Jagger fold up his penis and go home.” Oh, and the New Yorker showed off their upcoming Prince cover:
