Huh: Donald Trump Is Against North Carolina’s “Very Strong” Transgender Bathroom Bill

Donald Trump is, in many ways, a dangerous racist Cheeto dust-covered corn husk of a man, but occasionally he shocks and awes by sharing a not-terrible opinion on something of importance. This morning, while appearing on “Today,” Trump said that he opposes North Carolina’s abysmal transphobic bathroom bill, which prohibits trans people from using restrooms that don’t match the sex listed on their birth certificates:

“North Carolina did something that was very strong and they’re paying a big price. And there’s a lot of problems. Leave it the way it is. North Carolina, what they’re going through, with all of the business and all of the strife — and that’s on both sides — you leave it the way it is. There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate. There has been so little trouble. And the problem with what happened in North Carolina is the strife and the economic punishment they’re taking.”

See, even a hatemongering clown like Trump understands that people should just be allowed to piss in the toilet of their choosing. It’s not that complicated! Trump went on to say that he also opposes having a third bathroom just for trans people because “that would be discriminatory, in a certain way,” and because “it would be unbelievably expensive for businesses and for the country.”

Why he doesn’t take the same rational outlook on immigration and that goddamn wall, I don’t know – the guy is buffet of contradictory opinions. And lest you think he’s some sort of trans ally, keep in mind, his Miss Universe organization once disqualified a trans contestant (they ultimately reversed the decision but not before Trump made a yucky joke about it in an interview with Barbara Walters) and he misgendered Caitlyn Jenner in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Speaking of Jenner, though, Trump could really give a shit where she relieves herself, including in his own building.

“If Caitlyn Jenner were to walk into Trump Tower and wanted to use the bathroom, you would be fine with her using any bathroom she chooses?” Matt Lauer asked.

“That is correct,” Trump replied. Check out the full interview below:

Trump joins the long list of noteworthy people who think North Carolina’s bathroom bill is fucked up. A number of musical artists, including Pearl Jam, Boston (LOL, they’re still around?) and Bruce Springsteen, have canceled concerts in the state in protest of the bill. Eddie Vedder, Pearl Jam’s lead singer, delivered a passionate speech onstage in Virginia on Monday, explaining why the band had canceled their show in Raleigh:

“We had to make a real tough call about what we would do about the situation in North Carolina. Because they have a law there that broadly discriminates against a whole group of people. I can’t tell from here if you are booing North Carolina, if you’re booing us for having to decide that we are not gonna play there. I would understand that too.

We thought we could take the money and give it to them and still play the show, but the reality is there is nothing like the immense power of boycotting and putting a strain and it’s a shame because people are going to affected that don’t deserve it but it could be the way that ultimately is gonna affect change, so again, we just couldn’t find it in ourselves in good conscience to cross a picket line when there was a movement so…”

Trump and Pearl Jam on the same side of an issue? I never thought I’d see the day.
