Broad City’s Ilana Glazer and Paul W. Downs make stoner history with their new miniseries, ‘Time Traveling Bong’ on Comedy Central

If you’ve ever wished you had a bong that could help you transcend the limits of space this is the show you’ve been waiting for—and it should be no surprise that the first installment debuts on 4/20. Comedy Central’s three-part miniseries Time Traveling Bong centers around Broad City’s Ilana Glazer and Paul W. Downs who play slacker cousins that discover, you guessed it, a time-traveling toking device that transforms their mundane existence into a century-hopping adventure unlike anything you’ve ever witnessed before.

The duo’s various journeys take them everywhere from the ancient past to the dystopian future, and along the way they meet historical figures, narrowly avoid death, party hard, and get laid… a lot. If you’re a fan of the comedic sensibility of Broad City, this contains the same infectious humor but is even more over the top, especially when you bring cavemen and dinosaurs into the mix.

One of the most impressive aspects of the miniseries is the fact that beneath all of the bong rips lies some bold social commentary about issues like sexism, racism and environmentalism. But let’s not overanalyze a series whose premise centers around a smoking apparatus. While glamorizing bygone eras is nothing new, Time Traveling Bong’s glimpse into the not-so-flattering aspects of our evolution provides a fresh take – or should we say toke — on a familiar concept.

Watch the Time Traveling Bong trailer here and catch part one of the three part series TONIGHT (4/20) at 10:30/9:30c on Comedy Central or anytime on the CC APP.
