Apparently We’re All Using This Emoji Wrong, But I Think We Should Continue To Do So

I’m of the belief that there is no wrong way to use an emoji, but Mic begs to differ.

“Folks tend to use her when presenting information in a shameless, self-satisfied way,” according to Mic’s Jordyn Taylor. Taylor reports that the people at Unicode, the creators of the app, insist that the image is meant to represent an “Information Desk Person.” I guess it’s then supposed to evoke a “How can I help you?” vibe which is not something I would often text my friends. Personally, I send this lady-wearing-pink-and-giving-sassy-hands emoji to evoke a “you go girl” or a “you deserve it” kind of message, but hey, what do I know?

Some emoji users have come up with an entire narrative for this particular emoji.

So what do you think? Is it your classic female in a low status position asking “How can I help you?” or is it simply a “Look, I got a haircut!”

If it’s a friend you haven’t seen in a while, I suggest you take a break from emoji-ing and texting and maybe give them an actual call sometime soon.
