Scarlett Johansson Won’t Talk About The Wage Gap

Dainty little Scar Jo is too worried about etiquette to talk about the wage gap, she says in a new Cosmopolitan cover story.

Johansson expands on her feelings about the wage inequality issue in Hollywood:

“There’s something icky about me having that conversation unless it applies to a greater whole… I am very fortunate, I make a really good living, and I’m proud to be an actress who’s making as much as many of my male peers at this stage… I think every woman has [been underpaid], but unless I’m addressing it as a larger problem, for me to talk about my own personal experience with it feels a little obnoxious. It’s part of a larger conversation about feminism in general.”

It’s not a comfortable feeling to publicly talk about money. When there’s a spotlight on you, it’s certainly easier to stay silent. I get that Johansson is trying to check her (A+ List, super rich actress) privilege but her voice is valid. If wage inequality can happen to Scar Jo, it certainly can damn well happen to you.

This is also quiet shade to Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and any woman in Hollywood who has openly discussed the issue. Scarlett, you cold.
