Charlize Theron To Reunite With Young Adult’s Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman

The word on the street — which is to say Hollywood trade blogs — is that Charlize Theron is in early talks to hook up with Young Adult writer Diablo Cody and director Jason Reitman for a film about motherhood. Although there isn’t more info on the project at the moment, this is awesome news for fans of their 2011 black comedy slash drama, which slapped viewers in the face with a most unlikable female protagonist.

Theron stars in Young Adult as Mavis Gary, an outwardly beautiful and successful young adult author who is hell-bent on getting back her high school boyfriend. His happy married life and new baby is an afterthought for Mavis, whose everyday life is actually a miserable, toxic slog barely being held together by her purse dog and endless bottles of Diet Coke. With spectacularly squirm-worthy scenes between Mavis and basically everyone she encounters, Young Adult was a hard sell to audiences; the trailers made it look like a kind of quirky romcom, but that’s like advertising Taxi Driver as a great date movie. There’s also a good chance that Young Adult suffered from lingering Diablo Cody backlash from people who still get worked up about Juno, but they really need to give it a rest.

Keep your eyes peeled for more on this developing project! If you haven’t seen Young Adult, gird your loins and give it a look.
