Bernie Sanders Thinks George Clooney’s Expensive Fundraiser For Hillary Clinton Is ‘Obscene’

In a CNN interview for yesterday’s “State of the Union” Sunday, Bernie Sanders expressed understandable frustration at the elitist tactics of George Clooney’s upcoming fundraiser for Hillary Clinton. The fundraiser will be held in San Francisco on April 15th, and guests who want seats at the head table with Hillary Clinton and Amal and George will be required to pay upwards of $353,400 for two seats, which is the most expensive Mean Girls move I’ve heard in a long time.

The Clooneys are hosting a private fundraising event for Clinton at their LA home on April 16th where guests will only be required to pay $33,430 to attend — a relative bargain if you’re a Famous, but the equivalent of a working-class person’s yearly salary for the rest of us.  The obvious financial clash between fundraising events that are essentially VIP parties catered to millionaires and Bernie’s fundraising events which average charges between $15-$50 is alarming.

“It is obscene that Secretary Clinton keeps going to big-money people to fund her campaign,” Sanders argued, “I have a lot of respect for George Clooney. He’s a great actor. I like him. But this is the problem with American politics. Big money is dominating our political system. And my supporters and I are trying to move as far away from that as we can.”

Sanders noted that his average donation amount is $27, while Clinton has received over $15 million from Wall Street for her Super PAC and continues to receive financial support through big money events. He said that the reliance on big money in American politics is a sickness he’s trying to move away from. While Clinton may still be leading in the primaries, Bernie expressed faith that his campaign’s momentum can make up ground. A sentiment I hope proves itself true.
