Good Luck Getting Chirlane McCray’s Tampon Poem Out Of Your Head Today
Noted poet and First Lady of New York City Chirlane McCray put pen to paper to celebrate the presentation of a bill that would make tampons free in public schools, homeless shelters, and prisons. City Councilmember Julissa Ferreras-Copeland presented the bill on Tuesday.
If it passes, it could have a long-term impact; Ferraras-Copeland also introduced a pilot program in September that installed free tampon and pad dispensers at a Queens High School, and plans to expand the program to 25 schools by the end of the month.
The First Lady is already celebrating by tweeting out her poem. Let it fill your heart with love.
