Samantha Bee Takes On The Rape Kit Backlog And The Creeps Who Oppose Testing It
On last night’s Full Frontal, Samantha Bee took on one of our new favorite subjects–the freaks who somehow oppose…testing the rape kit backlog. Like Sheriff Craig Rowland of Idaho, who opposes testing them because he thinks most accusations are false anyway, and Sen. Renee Unterman of Georgia (AKA Sen. Petty White), who opposes the legislation to test them because she didn’t come up with that legislation herself!
She then addressed the issue that–in every state in the country–police can throw out a rape kit before the statute of limitations is up, in order to make room for more evidence. In Massachusetts, victims have to file for an extension to not have their kits thrown out. “You guys are taking the Marie Kondo method a little too far,” Bee notes…”Does this rape kit spark joy?”
Bee ended the segment by noting that “nobody is running against either of these ding-dongs in November, because we don’t care about local politics. So remember! Local elections are a lot like rape kits! No one really wants to pay attention to them, but if you open one up, you might just get rid of someone who’s been screwing everyone in town!”
