The Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children Trailer Might Be The Most Tim Burton-y Of Them All

All of Tim Burton’s films are centered around an outsider or underdog of sorts that is “strange and unusual,” usually portrayed by Johnny Depp. While this film doesn’t include Johnny, it is certainly strange and unusual. In fact, the trailer leads me to think this might be the most strange and unusual in his current repertoire of dark, twisted films.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is a film adaptation of the novel by the same name. Written by Ransom Riggs and released in 2011, the book follows the story of a young boy (played by the “young boy” that was in Hugo), who discovers an underwater portal back in time to the 1940s, where he meets Miss Peregrine (played by Eva Green).

Miss Peregrine runs an orphanage for kids with magical powers – which we can all agree is certainly within Burton’s wheelhouse. Artistically, the film looks stunning, in that dark, grim way that is Burton’s signature style. The trailer alone includes many moments of eerie whimsy that Burton is oh so good at. He makes you think “ew, that’s weird” and at the same you think, “but it’s kind of cool and beautiful too.”

Also, it looks like he got Edward Scissorhands to do the gardening for Miss Peregrine’s estate. The movie is going to be released September 30th, but I’m sure there’ll be merchandise available at Hot Topic well before that.
