The Next ‘Broad City’ Episode Features Hillary Clinton Without Championing Her

In our current political climate and seeing as it’s an election year, even appearing with a candidate for a photo can be interpreted as an endorsement for them. Contrary to these assumptions, the newest episode of Broad City — which centers on Ilana and Abbi meeting and fangirling over Hillary Clinton —  isn’t explicitly intended as an endorsement.

Glazer clarified that while they deeply respect Hillary they have no intentions of blatantly promoting Bernie or Hillary, and would rather focus on the funny ways their characters would interact with the Clinton campaign.

“We were not trying to make a political statement. That’s not our show, really—‘let’s make a political stance here.’ It’s really more that this is something that Ilana’s character would do,” Glazer said. “Even regardless of where we stand—and we love Hillary—Hillary is such an iconic figure. These girls being around her is not an everyday thing. That’s how we felt being around her. It was like, ‘Oh, this is a different world.’”

The episode will center Jacobson and Glazer freaking out in classic Broad City fashion, louder than life but relatable, as they meet the political icon. While people already want to speculate about the meaning or intention of Clinton’s appearance on their show before it even airs to the public, both the show creators confirmed that they have no specific agenda for or against her campaign.

In closing, Glazer said: “We’re trying to make really good TV. I think you’ll watch the episode and think you’ll agree that it’s a great episode of TV.”
