Arianna Grande Sings ‘Not A Feminist Song’ With Women Of ‘SNL’ And It’s Feminist As Hell
What is a “feminist song” anyway? Sort of hard to write one considering feminism – especially intersectional feminism is complicated as hell. Sure, we have 90s riot grrl stuff and more recently: Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Rihanna, and more but it’s still a lot of material to get through.
Grande and the SNL women including Aidy Bryant, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, and Sasheer Zamata did the perfect parody of this difficulty; starting out with singing about empowerment only to show how easily it can downslide – especially since feminism is picked apart so thoroughly (like women are themselves – oh the irony!).
The group ends up declaring that that it’s “Not A Feminist Song,” and therefore can be problematic without repercussions.
Watch and lol!
