Taiwanese McDonald’s Is Boycotted After Ad of Son Coming Out to His Dad Is Released
A new McDonald’s commercial in Taiwan called “Acceptance” has rocked some homophobic customers who can’t handle the sweet message of a young man coming out as gay to his father inside of a McDonald’s McCafe.
The young man writes on a McCafe cup “I like boys” after which his father slams his fist on the table and leaves in a huff. But I guess after thinking about it a couple minutes, he comes back in and adds three words to the middle of the son’s note on the same cup “I accept that you like boys.”
Personally, this made me totally tear-up and it’s just sad that so many people didn’t feel the same way.
The “Alliance of Taiwan Religious Groups for the Protection of Family” is hoping to inspire a boycott due to McDonald’s “openly promoting gay issues.” They are basically like the Taiwanese version of America’s “Focus on the Family” fundamental anti-gay religious group.
Gay marriage is still happens to be illegal in Taiwan but polls show that the majority of Taiwanese are in support of equality. The President-elect Tsai Ing-wen has said, “In the face of love, everyone is equal” so hopefully Taiwan will face a brighter future.
I want to project this ad far and wide across the world. Fuck the haters!
