Get Creeped Out By Karyn Kusama’s The Invitation

Feeling freaky on this Friday afternoon? Check out this trailer for Karyn Kusama’s award-winning thriller The Invitation, which opens on April 8th. All you need to know is that Will (Logan Marshall-Green) and his girlfriend Kira (Emayatzy Corinealdi) have been invited to a mysterious dinner party by Will’s old friends David (Michiel Huisman) and Eden (Tammy Blanchard). It’s been a while since Will has heard from David and Eden, so what gives? Why such a fancy invitation? What’s the deal? Who are the other people that they’ve invited?

Kusama is a badass director. Her credits include Jennifer’s Body, a movie I’ll go to the mat for; Aeon Flux, a big budget bomb with Charlize Theron; and the amazing indie Girlfight, with a tiny baby Michelle Rodriguez. Aeon Flux arguably derailed Kusama’s career, which is bullshit — just look at Zack Snyder! — and the Diablo Cody-haters were out in force for Jennifer’s Body, which was a hard movie to market given its subject matter.

It’s actually really hard to cut a trailer that isn’t total spoiler-tastic garbage, but as someone who’s seen The Invitation, I say this trailer is spoiler-safe! I also predict The Invitation will finally get everyone to stop confusing Logan Marshall-Green and Tom Hardy! And be sure to peep Khaleesi’s boyfriend slash Orphan Black baby daddy, Michiel Huisman.
