Kesha Thanks Fans While Accepting Human Rights Campaign ‘Visibility Award’
Kesha has had a whirlwind few weeks, between her court ruling that legally binds her to stay on contract with Sony and work with her abusive producer Dr. Luke, and the subsequent waves of support and criticism, and yet in the midst of this chaos she manages to maintain positivity and perspective. This past Saturday, she received the HRC (Human Rights Campaign) Visibility Award and made a beautiful speech highlighting the need for widespread equality — sharing that her empathy is also rooted in her experiences being bullied as a child.
At one point during the speech she was so emotionally overwhelmed she momentarily stepped away from the microphone, returning to say, “For any of you who know, I’m going through some personal things that have been really intense and hard lately, and I just want to say thank you for any support I’ve received.”
During her speech, she empathized the connection she’s always felt with the LGBT community and made a promise to continue to use her platform to fight for equality, later saying on Instagram,
“Tonight was incredibly special to be awarded for something I care so deeply about. I will fight for equal human rights till the day I die. Love always wins!”
