Actor Abraham Attah Wore TOMS To The Oscars For A Great Cause

Beasts of No Nation star Abraham Attah’s rocked some fancy black velvet TOMS on the Academy Awards red carpet Sunday night, and not only was it surprisingly cute, it was for a really good reason. Unlike attendees who are simply fresh out of fucks when it comes to haute couture*, Attah chose the shoes because in return for the high-profile product placement, TOMS is donating 10,000 shoes to Ghana. Attah was born in Ghana, which is also where Beasts was shot.

Although Attah was overlooked for an Oscar nomination, he did bring home the Male Lead Independent Spirit Award for his role as an African child soldier in the brutal Netflix drama. His co-star Idris Elba won a Spirit Award for supporting actor. Attah and Jacob Tremblay from Room shared the stage to present the Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film, and it was freaking adorable.

Although TOMS has garnered some controversy over the years, we applaud Attah’s dedication to charity — and to comfortable shoes.
