Woman Sues ‘El Al Airlines’ After Being Asked to Move Seats for Man On Flight
81-year-old woman Renee Rabinowitz [who incidentally escaped the Nazis as a kid], is suing El Al Airlines – Israel’s major airline – after she was asked to switch seats because of her gender.
Rabinowitz is a badass retired lawyer, might I add, and was quoted as saying: “Despite all my accomplishments—and my age is also an accomplishment—I felt minimized. I’ve been around the world, and some guy can decide that I shouldn’t sit next to him. Why?”
The dude passenger who wouldn’t sit next to her on her New York to Jerusalem flight was an ultra-Orthodox Jew whose only “defense” was that it’s in the Torah not to have any contact between unrelated men and women, even you know, on a freaking flight where that cannot be helped.
Her case is ongoing, and El Al Airlines has offered her a $200 voucher for the “inconvenience” (oh wow 200 big ones? Ugh). Rabinowitz isn’t bitter against the Orthodox though, she just wants justice.
“The idea of having a [ultra-Orthodox] population is wonderful, as long as they don’t tell me what to do.” YES. We got your back, Renee!
