Ellen Interviews Rousey About November Loss: ‘I Was Thinking About Killing Myself’
In a recent interview on Ellen, Ronda Rousey revealed a more vulnerable side as she opened up about the feelings of devastation and humiliation directly following her November loss to Holly Holms. The MMA match marked the first time Rousey experienced athletic loss in the public eye and the emotional and physical toll it took on her affected her deeply.
Rousey shared in the interview:
“I was literally sitting there and thinking about killing myself and that exact second I’m like ‘I’m nothing, what do I do anymore and no one gives a shit about me anymore without this.’To be honest, I looked up and I saw my man Travis was standing up there and I looked up at him and I was like, I need to have his babies. I need to stay alive.”
Those feelings are only incomprehensible in that most of us have no idea what it’d feel like to be that accomplished at MMA in the first place, but the grating humiliation and deep feelings of shame are all too relatable and human, making those of us who liked her feel even more affection.
