British Airways Is Letting Lady Employees Wear Pants Now
Female members of the British Airway cabin crew will now be welcome to keep their legs covered, instead of wearing skirts and nylons like a bunch of secretaries on Mad Men. The decision comes after a two-year dispute counteracting an employee dress code which demanded they be perpetually chilly and uncomfortable, because gender norms.
“Female cabin crew no longer have to shiver in the cold, wet and snow of wintery climates,” regional officer Matt Smith told The Guardian. “[They] also can be afforded the protection of trousers at destinations where there is a risk of malaria or the Zika virus.”
Isn’t that so nice of British Airways? Women being allowed to cover up AND protect themselves from disease is almost too much progress for one day.
Also, wanna know something funny about the UK? When they say “pants,” they mean “underpants,” so hopefully someone in London is reading that headline and just having a laugh. But, yeah, fortunately the women of British Airways were previously been compelled to go commando.
