Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin Get Sappy in Me Before You Trailer

The first trailer for the adaptation of Jojo Moyes’ best-selling British romance Me Before You is here, and it’s twee as hell. Emilia Clarke ditches her Game of Thrones dragons for the role of Lou Clark, a plucky small-town gal who gets a job as a home healthcare aide to Will Traynor, who was paralyzed in a motorcycle accident.

Will, played by toothy Hunger Games dude Sam Claflin, was living a life full of babes, money, adventure, and excitement, and he’s understandably pretty pissed about the turn his life has taken. In fact, he’s given himself about six months before he takes matters into his own hands. Falling for Lou complicates things considerably, but will it be enough?

Clarke hasn’t yet found a role that propels her beyond Khaleesi in the eyes of viewers, and Claflin is still struggling for that perfect leading man role. However, perhaps in the hands of award-winning theater director Thea Sharrock, who helped Daniel Radcliffe bare all for Equus, these two could hit new heights. It also probably doesn’t hurt that Moyes’ script was given a makeover by Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber, who also adapted The Fault In Our Stars. We’ll find out this summer, when Me Before You opens on June 3.
