Black Lives Matter Activist DeRay Mckesson Joins Baltimore Mayoral Race

A civil rights activist who has gained prominence in the Black Lives Matter movement is now throwing his hat in the ring for the mayorship of Baltimore. DeRay Mckesson, 30, the 13th and last candidate in the Democratic primary, filed right before the deadline in what the Baltimore Sun labels “a surprise move.” The Baltimore native—whom Hillary Clinton has called a “social media emperor”—has been a public school administrator in the city, as well as in Minnesota, and has lobbied to end police killings and boost community policing. Read more on Newser…
