Hey! Vina: The New App For Female Friendships

In our overwhelming age of technological interface, there’s an app for nearly every type of need — from dating and sex, to food delivery and jobs, so it’s about time there was an app for women to expand their circles of female friendship, and that is exactly what Hey! Vina exists to do.

As with most things, as you get older there’s less time and natural opportunity to make new pals, particularly for women entrenched in often male dominated work atmospheres. Why not utilize technology to close these gaps of intimacy and convenience?

“We built this app to solve for our own needs as women who have moved, traveled, changed careers, and shifted lifestyles and life stages,” explained the app’s CEO Olivia June Poole, “Through our adult lives we go a lot of places that our existing friendships don’t always support and it becomes time to expand our circles.”

Back in 2012 Poole co-founded the event series Ladies Who Vino after she used OkCupid algorithms to find like-minded female friends, and found many other women were doing the same thing. The friendships formed from these events and obvious need for this outlet inspired Poole to expand the idea into the friendship app Hey! Vina, which is currently available in San Francisco and New York, but has plans to spread to more cities.

I’m excited to see more apps bordering the lines of platonic friendship pop-up, as our human needs for intimacy obviously expand beyond sex and romance. With Bro on the market for men and Hey! Vina for women, I’m fully ready and excited to see what new friendship apps are on the horizon.
