Smart TV Not So Smart, Plays Porn At Father-And-Son Funeral

A Cardiff, Wales funeral for a father and his son took a very wrong turn this week, and just hold on, because everything about this story is painful.

First, the two had their funeral together following a car crash. The father and mother were in the car, the mother was pregnant, and she delivered the baby in an emergency C-section on the day following the crash. The father died in the crash, and the son died shortly after he was born. (A family tribute said that he was a “very popular man who lived for his family.”)

But, during the funeral, which was held at a crematorium that’s run by the Cardiff city council, mourners were treated to a (wildly situationally inappropriate) porn video instead of a video tribute to the father made by the family.

An investigation has been launched into why and how this happened, but the city council already has a hunch. A spokesman said, “The television screen which showed the inappropriate content was recently installed, replacing a screen which was broken. We are trying to establish if the new screen – which is a smart television – could have accepted or picked up a broadcast by accident via Bluetooth or across a Wi-Fi network.” He added that other screens that weren’t smart TVs weren’t affected.

It all makes me feel 1) extremely sorry for the family and 2) slightly reassured that our technology is not actually smarter than us (yet).
