Chris Rock Not Bowing Out Of Oscars But Is ‘Writing a New Show’

Amidst rumors that Chris Rock would bow out of hosting this year’s Oscars due to the glaring diversity issues in this years nominations, it has now been confirmed that Rock is indeed staying put, but will rewriting the whole script for his opening monologue and the rest of the show. You know this is going to be epic!

Included in his show will be several #OscarsSoWhite jokes, and it’s well known that Rock is no stranger to racially charged issues. He has always joked about the Academy Awards’ ongoing race issue, which resurfaced earlier this month after zero people of color were nominated for any of the major acting categories and only one non-white person was nominated for best director. When he tweeted a promo for the show, he called it “the white BET Awards.”

Academy Awards producer Reginald Hudlin told Entertainment Tonight that Rock is “hard at work” on his new show, saying that “Chris is that thorough, he’s that brilliant, and I have 1000 percent confidence that he will deliver something that people will be talking about for weeks.”

Even though Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have decided to boycott the Awards Show, Chris Rock feels as though fighting the establishment from within is the perfect way to address the severity of the diversity issues – head on – in this year’s Oscars.

I know I’m psyched to watch his speech and smash white supremacy to smithereens.
