Watch This Badass Teaser for Spike Lee’s Michael Jackson Documentary

The teaser for Spike Lee’s documentary Michael Jackson’s Journey From Motown To Off The Wall has just been released on Showtime’s YouTube channel, and it looks like a must-watch. The documentary will premiere February 5th on Showtime and showcases Jackson’s rise from child star to cultural icon. It will include performance clips and cameos from artists as diverse as Mark Ronson, Questlove, Pharell and The Weeknd, all talking about Jackson’s legacy and influence on their paths.

Obviously, there’s a lot to unpack from both Jackson’s public persona and his personal life, but Spike Lee chose to focus specifically on the Off The Wall era of Jackson’s career — intentionally choosing not to speculate on his later phases and what those mean.

I’d be more interested to see Lee’s documentary take a nuanced look at Michael Jackson’s full life including his later phases, but I completely understand his choice to hone the focus. I must admit this clip succeeded in putting me in a nostalgia-hole that has me totally excited to see this documentary.

Don’t take my word for it though — watch the clip for yourself!
