Oregon Militia Dude Says Black Lives Matter Treated More Fairly Than They Are

This weekend, as many as 150 armed militia members took hold of the Oregon Wildlife Refuge in order to protest the prison sentences of two ranchers found guilty of arson on Federal Land. Led by Ammon Bundy, son of Cliven Bundy, the militia members demand the release of the men, as well as for the U.S. Government to give them the Malheur National Forest for ranching, logging and mining purposes.

While many people online have mocked the group with hashtags like #YallQuaeda and #VanillaIsis, the mainstream media’s reaction to the group has been rather tame, considering the fact that they are armed fanatics taking over a federal building.

And yet! At least one of the militia members believes that their group is getting a backlash that Black Lives Matter didn’t get.

The man, identifying himself only as (swear to god) Fluffy Unicorn, told the Huffington Post “The Black Lives Matter movement, they can go and protest, close freeways down and all that stuff, and they don’t get any backlash, not on the level that we’re getting.”

Really? REALLY? That…does not seem right to me. Although he’s not alone! Because when we posted my article about the occupation yesterday on Facebook, someone posted this delightful and incredibly inaccurate meme in the comments:

anti-blm meme

Let’s think about this for a second. If there were a bunch of armed black people taking over a federal building, demanding that the United States government give them a forest and release arsonists from prison, and stating that they would shoot to kill anyone who tried to get them to leave, how likely do you think it would be that the cops would just leave them alone? How do you think Conservatives would react? I’m sorry–but you have to be a white Christian Conservative man to even think you could pull something like this off without ending up dead.

To put things in perspective, people went motherfucking apeshit over a few BLM people protesting the murder of Laquan McDonald taking some lights off a Christmas tree in Chicago. That happened!

Some people just sobbed out of their faces onto their computers, furiously typing things like “Fine, I get that they’re upset about a cop shooting an unarmed black kid…BUT THAT’S OUR CHRISTMAS TREE!” others employed some delightful racial slurs to describe the protestors, insisting they were thugs, etc. etc. Over a freaking Christmas tree.

Conservative pundits and politicians, when talking about Black Lives Matter people who are upset about police killing unarmed black people a little too often, often employ terms like “thugs” and “hate group” and whine about how they hate white people. 99% of the time, any article about BLM or any similar causes will get 85 comments about how “Anti-racist is a code word for anti-white” or what-have-you–along with a 70% chance someone cries about how mad they are that the Black Panthers ever existed, and at least a 50% chance that things will somehow get anti-Semitic.

So no–there is not any kind of “double standard” at play here. If anything, it is the absolute opposite.
