15 Celebs Who Came For Their Trolls in 2015

As they won’t stop telling us, celebrities are just like us. That means they get get angry, sad, and just confused — and the rise of Instagram and Twitter means they too sometimes spiral out and share it all online. Some celebrities (hi, Chrissy Teigen and Taylor Swift) know exactly how to manipulate their millions of followers and earn back some of the power they lose by being a full-time public figure. Others are still trying to learn hashtags. Here are the celebrities who took on the Internet in 2015. Brace yourself for a whole lot of trolls and fat-shaming, ahead.

Pink Is Happy, OK?

This tweet is a treasure trove of information about Pink. First of all, she’s not here for your fat-shaming. More importantly, she uses the word “whilst.”

Chrissy Teigen’s Baby Mama Drama

Just imagine those handsy people that want to touch your belly and guess the baby’s name, but magnified by the protective shield of the internet. Chrissy, we feel for you.

Gigi Hadid’s Fashion Month Manifesto

A photo posted by Gigi Hadid (@gigihadid) on

After weeks of posting photos from runways and after-parties, Gigi held forth on why Instagram commenters almost ruined her Fashion Month. (Don’t worry, she got her mojo back in time for Paris Fashion Week.) She also gave us a new feminist mantra: “Yes, I have boobs, I have abs, I have a butt, I have thighs, but I’m not asking for special treatment.” Thanks Gig!

Erykah Badu WILL Take Your Man

Erykah Badu just released an entire album about phones, technology, and sex. (If you haven’t heard “But You Caint Use My Phone,” stop reading and listen.) Why would you possibly mess with this woman on Twitter? A soft kudos to this troll for getting her BF as close as he’s ever going to get to Ms. Badu.

Kylie Jenner Hates Bullies!!

#Day4 – I’m getting a little more personal… When Lizzie Velasquez (@LittleLizzieV) was 17 years old, someone posted a video of her on YouTube calling her the world’s ugliest woman. “By the time I saw the video, it had 4 million views.” Now 26 years old, Lizzie’s condition was diagnosed last summer. Lizzie suffers from a rare congenital disease that less than 10 people in the world are known to have. The disease impedes her from accumulating body fat; she literally has zero percent body fat and has never weighed more than 64 pounds, however though it is not terminal. Throughout her entire life, this condition has resulted in a lot of #bullying. It is so unacceptable to treat people like this. People are so quick to say horrible things about me everyday over and over and sometimes I can’t take it. Even I at times get affected by it, I breakdown, I hide, I cry. It’s resulted in a lot of anxiety for me that I’ve never had to deal with before ever. My every move has been documented for the whole world and its been a nightmare trying to find myself through all of this. And I’ve absolutely lost apart of myself. Lizzie, you are so strong and I admire you so so much. Lizzie has taken that negative energy and has turned it around by traveling around the world doing motivational speeches. When I asked her what the key messages were of her speeches, she told me that “Most importantly I try to convey that all you need to have is a brave heart to accomplish whatever you want to achieve. Let the negative build you up instead of knocking you down. You are enough no matter what; you were put on this earth for a reason” Soon you’ll be able to see her story on the big screen in the documentary film @ABraveHeartFilm in theaters on September 25th. Check out Lizzie’s Instagram @LittleLizzieV – she’s taking a lifetime full of bullying to help teach the world #IAmMoreThan the names they call me. #ImWithLizzie and Lizzie taught me #IAmMoreThan who I think I am. For me, this is expected it comes with the territory. But Lizzie, you should of not had to go through that. Let’s change this together. I love you Lizzie! I’ll see you soon.   A photo posted by King Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

Lizzie Velasquez has a rare congenital disease and has never weighed more than 64 pounds. She’s been bullied her whole life and called “The Ugliest Woman in the World.” Our girl Kylie has ALSO been bullied! “My every move has been documented for the whole world and its been a nightmare trying to find myself through all this.” While not exactly the same, you have to believe her heart was in the right place.

Demi Lovato Wants Us to Chill

When Mattel decided to create a Zendaya Barbie based on her now-iconic Oscars look, Demi wanted more. She tweeted, “Hey @Barbie, what about a curvy doll or one with true to size measurements? I’ll model!! #loveyourcurves #besuper” Of course, media picked up on the fact that Demi was less than supportive of Zendaya’s big moment. Sorry, I’ll stop here — need to go call my mom.

…And to Love Our Curves

At least Demi’s platform is clear: self-acceptance, curves are cool, love yourself, etc. One question: if you don’t have someone to love your curves, are you a trash monster?

Selena Gomez Also Has Curves

I love being happy with me yall #theresmoretolove 😂 A photo posted by Selena Gomez (@selenagomez) on

Not to be outdone by Demi, Selena Gomez wants us to know she loves herself too.

And She Doesn’t Lip Sync

You can’t accept to give a fire performance at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and leave unscathed, right Selena? Someone left a comment on the official VS Instagram accusing her of lip syncing and Selena was not. Having. It.

Don’t Insult Nicki Minaj’s Hair

When Nicki got some hate for her ponytail, she did what we all do — dug through her troll’s timeline until she found a picture when they looked a little questionable. But why stop at the win when you can go for a steamroll? Nicki posted the photos of her haters to her 43 million Instagram followers, and we all learned a little something about keeping our accounts private.

Kelly Clarkson for President

This isn’t even a random troll: Katie Hopkins is a British TV personality who felt the need to randomly attack Kelly and her body. Of course, the whole thing turned into a slew of incredible press for Kelly when she responded to Heat Magazine like a lady, “Oh, and she’s tweeted something nasty about me? That’s because she doesn’t know me. I’m awesome! It doesn’t bother me. It’s a free world. Say what you will.”

Zendaya’s Oscar Nightmare

A photo posted by Zendaya (@zendaya) on

I highly doubt you forgot this one: at this year’s Oscars, E! red carpet host Giuliana Rancic made a “joke” that Zendaya’s dreadlocks smelled like patchouli oil and weed. The good news is that 19-year-old Zendaya handled Rancic’s racism with extreme class and got herself a whole lot of great press (and a Barbie!) out of the ordeal.

The Nicki Minaj/Taylor Swift VMA Saga

Next up in 2015 Beefs That Wouldn’t Die: Nicki Minaj called out the VMAs for nominating one very similar type of artist, and Twitter queen Taylor Swift took personal offense. Of course, it all ended with a very public makeup performance on the VMA stage. Hmm… interesting how that happens.

Coco is Super Mom

Ice T, Coco, and their baby Chanel (yep!) may live in a “celebrity world,” but she apparently never hires a babysitter. This honestly just sounds terrible.

Sam Smith is “Genuinely Not Offended”

Homophobia is still present in our society and it’s taking the time to come up with little rhymes to offend Sam Smith.

Calvin Harris to the Rescue

Ah, the Zayn Malik-Taylor Swift-Calvin Harris feud of 2015. When Taylor refused to let Spotify stream her music, these two men felt the need to chime in with their own opinions. Of course, Taylor’s fans rushed to defend her decision and her boyfriend, while Directioners will straight up kill a man if Zayn gives the go-ahead. All’s well that end’s well; Zayn is back to mostly tweeting selfies.
