David Duke Thinks Trump Is More “Radical” Than He Is, And He’s Actually Kind Of Right
In a pretend Fox News interview earlier this month, David Duke–a former Grand Dragon of the KKK–shared some thoughts about GOP frontrunner Donald Trump. Unsurprisingly, Duke thinks Trump is a swell guy and is glad he’s looking out for “European Americans”– yet, surprisingly, he thinks Trump is actually more radical than he, the former Grand Dragon of the KKK, is.
As far as what I see, according to the candidates that are out there now, Republicans and Democrats, I think he’s head and shoulders right now above the rest. I don’t agree with everything he says, he speaks a little more, actually he speaks a little more, a lot more radically than I talk. And I think that’s a positive and negative.
This is actually somewhat true, oddly. Duke’s whole thing was rebranding the KKK as not so much against minorities, but for white people. Which, yes, is ridiculous, but that was his whole thing. Duke was really the first person to start pushing the whole “I’m not racist but it’s unfair that black people have Black History Month and Black Entertainment Television and people would say white people were racist if we had that!” line of thinking. He tried to spin racism against black people into “advocacy” for white people–ie: the classic “I don’t hate black people, I just love white people! It’s not about hate! It’s about love!” schtick.
Trump’s whole thing, however, is coming right out with being an asshole and not really trying to pretend otherwise–and in that aspect, he is, in fact, more radical. He comes right out and says he thinks Mexican immigrants are rapists and drug dealers, he comes right out and advocates barring Muslims from entering the country, he comes right out and says it’s “disgusting” for women to go to the bathroom.
Duke says, “It’s positive in the fact that there’s less political correctness and people are getting the courage to speak out.”–and that’s an interesting statement, when you think about it. I think Trump supporters are actually exhausted from doing the David Duke thing and trying to spin their views as somehow being rational and fair, and just want to be able to go full Archie Bunker without fear of social consequences. Trump’s campaign has been cathartic for them, in a way, because they see him as largely triumphing over those negative social consequences and getting to succeed while still being a huge asshole.
While Duke says he supports Trump, he says he cannot offer his full endorsement due to the fact that Trump supports Israel. Of course, the reason Conservatives support Israel is usually either because many believe that in order for the rapture to come, the Jewish people must be residing in Jerusalem, or because they think it’s important for the U.S. to have an ally in the Middle East, not because they have some great love for the Jewish people.
Still, when David Duke is admiring anything you do, you might want to at least take a step back and examine what it is you are doing to appeal to David Duke. Because there is just no possible way that can be a good thing. Quite frankly, if David Duke were to say his favorite ice cream flavor was pistachio, I would probably find a new favorite ice cream flavor. If you are doing anything right with your life or your opinions, David Duke should probably hate your guts and think you are wrong about everything.
