American Support For Legal Abortion At Highest In Two Years

WELL, WELL, WELL. While GOP Presidential candidates and conservative pundits would like to have you think that the majority of people in this country–save wicked harlots like myself–are vehemently opposed to legal abortion, a recent Associated Press-GfP poll shows that 58% of us support legal abortion in most or all circumstances, up from 51% at the beginning of this year.

That’s a lot of people!

Predictably, 76% of Democrats agreed that abortion should be legal in all or most circumstances–but surprisingly, so did 40% of Republicans–up from 35%. Excuse me? Where are you people? Who are you people? Would you mind speaking up once in a while when the people representing you and your values are swearing up and down that they’re going to make abortion illegal? I mean, hi! Could you help us out a little? It’s not like it was maybe in the ’90s where it was unlikely that Republicans could or would even bother to make abortion illegal–it’s getting pretty serious now.

The poll also found a divide between conservative and moderate/liberal Republicans (WTF is a liberal Republican?), with 70% of conservative Republicans saying they believe abortion should be illegal in all or most circumstances, and 60% of moderate or liberal Republicans said it should be legal in all or most circumstances.

This data is especially interesting in light of the ridiculous Planned Parenthood faux-scandal that made headlines this year.
