Tesla CEO Elon Musk Opens AI Non-Profit So Robots Don’t Take Over The World

Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk has started a nonprofit venture devoted to open-source research into artificial intelligence called ‘OpenAI.’ Musk is co-chairing the project with Y Combinator CEO Sam Altman, along with other prominent technology executives who are investing $1 billion in the project. It is aimed at creating artificial intelligence that augments humans’ capabilities instead of making them obsolete.

The new institute said in a press release about the company:

Because of AI’s surprising history, it’s hard to predict when human-level AI might come within reach. When it does, it’ll be important to have a leading research institution which can prioritize a good outcome for all over its own self-interest.

Musk reiterated in an interview with Backchannel saying “I’m going to be super-conscious personally, of safety.”

Musk has always been dedicated to using technology and his money to improve the world, being the leader of innovation with the electric car, the Tesla.

This sounds all well and good but I’m still going to make sure to watch my back inside of my robot-run nursing home in a few decades.
