Woman Who Shot At Home Depot Shoplifters Swears She’ll Never Help Anyone Again
Hey! Remember Tatiana Duva-Rodriguez? The lady who, for some reason, decided it would be helpful to open fire in a Home Depot parking lot and shoot at some suspected shoplifters? Well, unsurprisingly, she was charged with one count of reckless use, handling or discharge of a firearm, and was sentenced to 18 months probation and had her license to carry a concealed weapon revoked until 2023.
Again, as a former retail worker, I feel I must remind people that this is a terrible, terrible idea. It is not helpful. Please do not ever go after a shoplifter yourself, with or without a gun — that is what security is for, and besides, even if they get away with it, there is insurance that covers shrinkage.
Duva-Rodriguez stated in court that although her decision “may not have been the right one,” she was just trying to help. She later told reporters, “I learned my lesson that I will never help anybody again.”
Now, if the only way Duva-Rodriguez feels she can help people is with a gun, then I guess this is a pretty good decision on her part. However, should that really be her takeaway here? I mean, there are a lot of ways to help people that are unlikely to result in being charged with reckless use of a firearm.
And again, NOT ACTUALLY HELPFUL.
