“Dance Moms”‘ 6th Season Delayed Because Producer Wanted Child Dancer To Perform As Pregnant Teen
As if “Dance Moms” didn’t provide a veritable parade of ethically WTF drama already, Abby Miller, the queen and frontwoman of the show, says she is delaying production on season six because a producer wanted to have child dancers dress as pregnant teens. The delay is a breach of her contract, meaning Miller will be fined, about which she wrote her in “Dance Moms” newsletter:
If I’ve gone missing from a few episodes in Season 6, don’t believe anything anybody says. When a grown man tells me he wants one of my kids to portray a pregnant teen and wear a baby bump—I have to put my foot down. If that means not moving my foot and not working and getting fined in the process, well that’s a risk I am willing to take to protect my girls. I am always teaching principles, integrity, and values in addition to dance technique. It is important for me that the girls learn to stand up and fight for what they believe in!
The pro-girl argument seems a little shady considering this women has built an empire by exploiting the talents of young girls, forcing them to compete with each other and measure their worth by performance, but who am I to critique? Also, the idea of a “Dance Mom” competitor dressing as a pregnant teen seems both horrifying and laughable, which is pretty on brand, no?
