Daniel Holtzclaw Verdict: Guilty On 18 Counts With A Recommended Sentence Of 263 Years In Prison
After 45 hours of deliberation, the jury finally rendered a verdict in the case against Daniel Holtzclaw, an Oklahoma City police officer who was a charged with raping 13 Black women while on patrol. Holtzclaw was convicted of 18 of the 36 charges:
- 4 counts of rape in the first degree
- 1 count of rape by instrumentation
- 6 counts of sexual battery
- 4 counts of forcible oral sodomy
- 3 counts of procuring lewd exhibition
The recommended sentence is 263 years behind bars. He’ll be formally sentenced on January 21.
Holtzclaw openly wept and shook his head as the verdict was read, seemingly devastated that his grand plan – to target and rape poor Black women while on duty and get away with it because who would believe them, right? – had failed. Today, incidentally, is his 29th birthday – the first of many he’ll spend behind bars.
